How to create a single document for the database?

Step one:

Click at the "sources" button on the navigation-bar and navigate to the type of source you have information about.

Choose the region and period for the piece of information you want to document and click on the field at the table


Step two: If it is the first document in this group, a new window will open. Give the sourcepiece a short title and put it in []

eg. [altarpiece in sigishoara] and click on the save button. After saving this, the title appears in red letters - which indicates a link to a new document which is empty.


Click on the title of your new document - an empty editor field opens.


Step three:

As far as possible, provide the following information:



DESCRIPTION A free text, unstandardized description of the content(s) of the resource without any limits concerning size, terminology. In full sentences and well formulated; not a list of keywords! If this text is taken over from secondary literature or the web, etc., the references have to be given.


CREATOR Person who had "produced" the ‘source’; like author or artist or website creator; or unknown for an archeo(zoo)logical source object; or the name of the ‘creator’ of the content, that is, e.g., of an archeozoological Excel table Use the format: last name, first name(s) Multiple entries have to be separated by a semicolon



PUBLISHER Institution were the object is kept



CONTRIBUTOR The person primarily responsible for creating the entry into the database Use the format: last name, first name(s), e-mail, institution


DATE A date associated with the creation or availability of the resource. Use the format DD.MM.YYYY If the date of creation is unsharp, use a timespan, e.g., 00.00.1470-00.00.1500


SUBJECT The topic of the resource, that is, the animal name(s) (like elefant) or animal part name(s) (like chicken soup) or animal product name’s (like crocodile belt).


SOURCE Detailed source description including references to publication or archive, shelfmark, or museum, inv. nr., or archeological depository, inv. nr., etc.


LANGUAGE Langage of the source and/or language of the description (e.g., on the website).


RELATION Known content links to other sources that are already part of MAD or should become part.


COVERAGE The spatial characteristics of the content of the resource. Use geographical names always in the original language, in the following order: part of place (if relevant), place name, region or province or county, country; e.g.: Elefantenalm, St. Georg, Salzburg, Österreich; Berkeley, California, US


RIGHTS Contact address of the owner or copyright owner, to be contacted if mmaterial is going to be published.
